Since Napoli football club was founded, there were a lot of ups and downs moments. From winning several major championships, bola 88 and leagues with the best players to involving relegation battles, the club still stands up high until now.

The Declination of Napoli Football Club

Napoli went through a declination after 1991 – 1992 seasons even though the fact showed that the club was in the fourth rank in that season. The declinations were including on the field and their financial. There was good news when great players including Careca, Ciro Ferrara, Gianfranco Zola, and Daniel Fonseca joined the club in 1994. The club could reach in the third spot in 1996 – 1997 and also qualified for the UEFA Cup 1994 – 1995. Unfortunately, the club lost at the final of Coppa Italia with the result 3 – 1 to Vicenza.  Their performance also dropped lower during 1997 – 1998 and also involved in relegation. So, the result in Serie B wasn’t so great. From all the seasons in that year, the club only got two trophies.

The Rebirth of Napoli Football Club

After the club came back to Serie A when they got their promotion in 1999 – 2000, they were back to perform well in the next season despite the relegation battle they involved. And in August 2004, there was horrible news that the club went bankrupt. It was just the right time when a film producer, Aurelio De Laurentiis saved the club and rebuilt the formation of the club one more time. He used the name Napoli Soccer since the club couldn’t use their old nickname. Later on, FIGC put Napoli in Serie C in 2004 – 2005 after they lost the match in playoffs with the result 1 – 2 against Avellino.

Even though the poor performance of the club led them in the Serie C, they got bigger attendances’ average compared to most of the clubs in Serie A. They broke the record with 51,000 attendances in one match. In May 2006, De Laurentiis bought the old name of the club which is Societa Sportiva Calcio Napoli and restored the club’s name after in the next season they could secure the promotion and ended up to Serie B.

Many fans are still catching up about the journey of Napoli Football Club. With their ups and downs moments before they are as famous as now, this Italian football club indeed deserves more recognition from the whole world.
